The brief: Our clients bought this home for the space, but when we arrived it was a white canvas, literally. The challenge was making it feel cozy, so we got to work adding character through color, texture, and pattern.
What we did: The idea was minimal construction so we could focus on furnishing the home properly. We arched two thresholds, one into the bedroom hall and one into the kitchen, which softened the space and brought the eye down from the high ceilings to a more manageable scale. We added trim to the main walls of the living and dining rooms for rhythm in a rather large space, then layered furniture in a variety of textures with custom pieces, fabrics, artwork, and accent lighting. The white canvas had life.
The kitchen: We kept every appliance and plumbing line where it was, but removed all the carpentry and installed new cabinets that fill the space better. The walls around the pantry came down and were rebuilt in cabinetry for a cohesive look, which actually gained storage. A feature hood and an accent pendant finish it off.
